Ilaiyaraaja was one of the earliest Indian film composers to use Western classical music harmonies and string arrangements in his

music scores. He crafted out a rich tapestry of sounds for films, and his themes and background score gained notice and appreciation among his fans.His wide range of expressive possibilities in film music was broadened by his methodical approach to drawing ideas from a diversity of musical styles. Ilaiyaraaja's music is characterised by the use of the an orchestration technique that is a synthesis of Western and Indian instruments and musical modes. No one had ever dared to think way ahead of their time, though he was adamant that music must be enjoyed and fit in to different times in our lives.

This multi-talented persona had compassion to music, thinking way ahead of his time and place soul and live into his compositions. He was indeed a supremo in his own way of expressions, always thinking out of box and willing to write unimaginable notes, that would not only be hits later but remained in the hearts of his ardent fans till today…

Ilayarajaa had composed over 4,500 songs and provided big time hit film scores for more than 950 films in various languages, Undeniably, his songs and background scores had touched millions around the Indian cine world and played crucial roles to the success of many hit movies…

As he gained fame over the early 80’s and leading to the 90’s during his peak of producing excellent music scores, Ilayarajaa was conferred the title Isaignani , or The Maestro, a niche title accorded only to the finest and best music composers of our time.

His feat and success story did not stop there, he strived to go global and in 1993, he organised a full symphony and became the first Asian to compose a full symphony performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London. In the 2000s, he worked on and composed a variety of non-film music, including an oratorio and began to shift his focus on World Music. In 2006, he released another world hit, The Music Messiah, a modern out of time musical concept infusing mythological narratives. One could see that his passion and live put into his scores were much sought after and his rise to the global hall of fame became a reality.

As of 2013, he has won four Indian National Film Awards various other regional and world accreditation for his excellent work of music. He had made his presence felt in some his big time hit concerts in the US, Canada, Middle East and Asia.

Today, he commands the likes of millions of ardent fans all around the globe and certainly there is no stopping this MAESTRO and GOD FATHER OF Indian Music…
